Spike Island Print Studios + Allie Gallion
Title: “My Happy Place; Cunts can fuck off.”
(2025)
Artist: Allie Gallion
Medium: Screenprint
As written in my project proposal to Spike Island Print Studios:
“Through this midsommar term, I aim to develop a small body of work that reflects this transition in my practice—one that balances process and intention, and positions print not just as a medium, but as a critical part of my future direction as an artist. I also look forward to being part of the studio community, learning from others, and contributing meaningfully to the shared creative environment at Spike Island.”
Spike Island Print Studios — Bristol, UK (2025)
This summer marked a pivotal moment in my practice, where I challenged my existing methods, expanded my material vocabulary, and strengthened the conceptual clarity of my work. Over the course of the midsommar term, I developed My Happy Place — a series of 39 large-scale prints that explored printmaking as both a tool of repetition and disruption, revealing new possibilities in design and narrative construction.
I refined technical skills across screen-printing, specifically cmyk, testing how processes could be pushed to produce unusual and unexpected outcomes. Balancing process and intention.
Equally important was my time within the Spike Island community, where I exchanged knowledge, learned from fellow printmakers, and contributed to a shared studio environment that emphasized experimentation, rigor, and dialogue.
